PSAT, SAT & ACT Preparation
Reading specialists and teachers of English, math, and/or special education work with high-school students to determine their most effective learning modalities. Based on pre-tests and examination of performance on previous standardized tests, tutors develop an individualized course of study for each of their students. Results of pre-tests and student interviews identify skills requiring reinforcement; novel strategies are introduced to expand students repertoire of test-taking skills. Progress is monitored by the administration of sample exams, the results of which form the basis for ensuing sessions.
Although crash courses are the norm for SAT- and ACT-bound students, we have found that a more nurturing, steady approach to this type of important examination allows individuals to reinforce and practice skills over a longer period of time. It also helps reduce the anxiety examinees feel as a consequence of the exam and that pressured, rushed preparation may promote.
